Learn more about the Silk Road

If you are in the Valencian Country do not miss the opportunity to do the Silk Road, which is the ideal thing to do if you want to learn more about the Valencian history.

The «Silk Road» was a network of trade routes from the business of Chinese silk from the s. II. C, which spread throughout Asia and became entrenched in s. XV in the Hispanic kingdoms and the western Mediterranean. This was a way in which merchants, priests, scientists, diplomats, soldiers and adventurers circulated carrying, in addition to silk goods, goods such as porcelain, iron or tea. In the city, we find many vestiges of the importance of silk throughout the history of the city. Silk was the most powerful industry in the city from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.

In some villages, silk is still fabricated, without any kind of mechanization, which are silk fabrics that in most cases are destined for regional costume clothing. To know these ancient looms, you can visit the old factory Garin and the future Museo de la Seda de Moncada with a collection of over 3,000 pieces including S. XIX machinery, tools, books, letters, drawings, cartoons or spurs.
